Volume 1 — Coming soon
The Potala Palace, Tibet and The League of Four
Three governments want the relics. One Canadian businessman has a better idea.
Denis Bélec sells drawer slides and casters for a living. He is not a spy. But one accidental brush with the CIA in Shanghai was enough to put his name in a file, and now two relentlessly smiling agents are sitting in his office with a request he can't quite refuse.
An earthquake has cracked open a tomb inside the Potala Palace in Lhasa, and a monk has quietly spirited away three ancient relics: a fragment of a sacred robe, a handful of thousand-year-old blessed pills, and a prayer wheel small enough to hide in a closed fist. The Dalai Lama wants them brought out of Tibet. Beijing wants them gone for good. And Washington, London and Paris need someone they can deny.
So Denis joins a guided tour of Tibet with a busload of Taiwanese retirees, and quickly learns he isn't the only one there for the relics. A Taiwanese intelligence officer who is not on the tour by accident. A charming guide with secrets of her own. An Indian colonel who prefers leverage to force. And Marcus Wei-Cheng Tan, a former CIA officer turned enforcer for China's Ministry of State Security, who believes in breaking things until the answers fall out.
Twelve thousand feet up, with every phone tapped and every hotel room searched, Denis has three things going for him: his imagination, three friends back home who never let him down, and a suspicious number of Toronto Blue Jays caps.
The first adventure of the League of Four.
